We have a saying in our house if it’s not from Costco you probably don’t need it. I have purchased everything from electronics for home and business, clothing ( like my favorite Calvin Klein Jeans) and of course groceries, all from Costco. Did you know that you can also benefit from some of the food products for your beauty routine as well? Their extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil that you can buy in bulk- are a prime example. Coconut oil has amazing health benefits. Aside from it anti-fungal and moisturizing benefits it also has anti-aging benefits and a natural SPF of 4. I grill all of my fish and chicken in this tasty, light oil. In our Midwestern dry winter months I also use this as a facial moisturizer and an after bath oil for my son’s dry, sensitive skin. Coconut oil has been used for centuries as a health remedy. Its benefits include creating a healthy pH level in skin as well as helping balance the thyroid . Our skin is our largest organ. Everything you put on your skin you absorb. That is why in so many blog posts I have mentioned the down sides to using chemical filled beauty products. Not only can you save money by purchasing this wonderful oil in bulk for cooking, but it’s uses for health, hair and skin as well its versatile uses for home, make it a sensible and economical choice for a staple in the pantry. You can even polish wood and metal with it as well!

Give Coconut & Olive Oil A Chance On Your Skin

I remember the days when I was a child I would watch my grandmother remove her makeup with cold cream. Did you know that you can use coconut oil the exact same way, as a full makeup remover? I buy it in this large canister from Costco, and then when I get home I put it into smaller jars and keep it in different rooms around the house. With its buttery consistency, you can easily scoop it out and apply it directly to your face. I also use it on the end of a cotton swab to remove excess eye makeup and to clean out my children’s ears. Its anti-fungal properties make it a great diaper ointment as well!

One of the things I use olive oil for are creating my own body scrubs. I mix olive oil with some sugar in a jar and keep it in the shower for an inexpensive and organic body scrub. You can also use olive oil for an eye makeup remover. By mixing 2 tablespoons of olive oil with 1 tablespoon of honey and then warm it in the microwave for 20 seconds creates a great winter time facial mask. Simply apply the mixture to your face and leave it on for 10 minutes then wipe off with a warm washcloth. I also use this to shave my legs with. it leaves my legs are so smooth and it’s far superior to a chemical filled cream . Just be careful in the shower! It can be slippery of course. So if you’re looking for some economic and healthy ways to save money on beauty products start with coconut oil and olive oil. By cooking and using them, your health, skin and pocketbook will thank you!
