Studio 39 Salon Owner & Brand Creator
Blonde Specialist | Master Stylist
If I could rate a 10 star I would because I finally found a real blonde specialist! I love that a salon owner like Gemy makes education a priority and has built such an AMAZING team They actually work together and it’s impressive to watch! There’s nothing better than going to a salon where everyone is on the same page from start from finish. Thank you for finally making me blonde!
Hair Cutter to Blonde Specialist
Before becoming a blonde specialist, Gemy began her career at Mario Tricoci’s of Chicago, a departmentalized salon. There stylists did haircutting and colorists did color, so she chose to be a stylist to master Vidal Sassoon haircutting techniques. By 23 her clientele included First Ladies, pro-athletes, and TV personalities. With a 4th generation entrepreneurial family background, she opened Studio 39 at age 24 in 2001 when Mario’s left KC. In 2002 she attended L’Oréal Academy in Soho, New York to learn advanced hair color.
Kansas City’s First Blonde Hair Specialist
Born a natural blonde, she wanted to perfect blonde coloring, and her clientele grew by word of mouth. When and expanded highlighting with Balayage her clientele tripled and the salon noticed new requests for the blonde specialist. She realized there was a void for specialized color in Kansas City, so she began training assistants in haircutting and color, which later became the Studio 39 associate program.
In 2005 she started posting hair tips on the first S39 website and these later became a popular beauty blog. The salon training programs she created for hair cutting, hair color, highlighting and blonde work grew as well. Beauty business development and salon management classes were added. With help from Megan, who was once her first salon assistant, they trained Studio 39 staff, local stylists, and salon owners, on how to grow careers in the salon industry.
One blog reader was a local producer who invited her to be a guest host on KCTV5 Better Beauty. Over 3 years she wrote regular segments until 2018 when she began building plans for a second salon location. In spring of 2019 Lakewood Studio 39 opened in Lee’s Summit. You can browse her blogs here.
