Studio 39 Salon Owner & Brand Creator
Blonde Specialist | Master Stylist
If I could rate a 10 star I would because I finally found a real blonde specialist! I love that a salon owner like Gemy makes education a priority and has built such an AMAZING team They actually work together and it’s impressive to watch! There’s nothing better than going to a salon where everyone is on the same page from start from finish. Thank you for finally making me blonde!
Hair Cutter to Blonde Specialist
Before becoming a blonde specialist, Gemy began her career at Mario Tricoci’s of Chicago, a departmentalized salon. There stylists did haircutting and colorists did color, so she chose to be a stylist to master Vidal Sassoon haircutting techniques. By 23 her clientele included First Ladies, pro-athletes, and TV personalities. With a 4th generation entrepreneurial family background, she opened Studio 39 at age 24 in 2001 when Mario’s left KC. In 2002 she attended L’Oréal Academy in Soho, New York to learn advanced hair color.
Kansas City’s First Blonde Hair Specialist
Born a natural blonde, she wanted to perfect blonde coloring, and her clientele grew by word of mouth. When and expanded highlighting with Balayage her clientele tripled, because few salons in KC were doing it in 2006. Soon the salon had people calling to request “the blonde specialist’, and she realized how the void for specialized hair color was needed in Kansas City. To help meet demand, she trained her assistants in haircutting and color, which later became the Studio 39 associate program.
Industry educator & content creator.
Training included hair cutting, hair color, highlighting and blonde work. Now it has expanded training to salon business management and staff development. With help from her first assistant Megan, they trained staff, local stylists and salon owners how to grow a successful career and salon. Before blogging was a term, she posted “Client Tips” on the first S39 website in 2005 which became a popular blog. One reader was a local producer who invited her to write segments and guest host on KCTV5 Better Beauty. Over 3 years she did regular segments until 2018 when building plans for a second location began. In spring of 2019 Lakewood Studio 39 opened in Lee’s Summit.
